With so many birders covering the Spurn area it is always helpful for us to get as many records submitted to us as possible. Please try to send in sightings on the same day so we can get them added to the log.

Wednesday, 19 November 2025
There was a cold F5 north westerly while cloudy with some rain. Watches: 0700 - 1000.
The 2 Humes Warblers both remained vocal at the Tithe barn and teminal copse but other grounded migrants were down to single figure counts including a Woodcock, 5 Chiffchaffs, 2 Blackcaps, a Goldcrest, 5 Redwings and a Grey Wagtail.
A Barnacle Goose was on Easington straight with 800 Brent Geese.

Cold and frosty start with some ice, bright and sunny, clouding over with rain in afternoon along with a F5 westerly. Watches: 0650 - 1000.
There were 2 Humes Warblers today with one still in Easington by the Tithe barn and another heard (recording obtained) and seen briefly at Terminal copse and a Firecrest nearby at greenfield bungalows. Other grounded migrants included 6 Woodcocks, 4 Chiffchaffs, a Siberian Chiffchaff, 4 Blackcaps, 22 Goldcrests, 23 Redwings, 105 Blackbirds, 23 Robins, a Brambling and 59 Siskins plus a Yellow-browed/Humes Warbler seen briefly at terminal copse while some light movement saw 12 Lesser Redpolls and 19 Siskins head south with 19 Eiders north over the sea. (The Little Bunting in Easington was reported but no info was recieved by us).

Much cooler F4 northerly wind, some light rain throughout the day, sunny spells. Watches: 07:00-10:00.
There was no sign of the Eastern Black Redstart but a nice Olive-backed Pipit at the point was another addition to the yearlist. The Humes Warbler was still in Easington at the Tithe barn with a Little Bunting found on the footpath around the gas terminal. Other bits saw the Eastern Lesser Whitethroat in Kilnsea, 2 Firecrests (Kilnsea, easington cemetry) and 5 Black Redstarts (4 Easington, 1 point). In contrast to previous days there was just a single Woodcock while a clearout of grounded migrants but increases in some other including 16 Chiffchaffs, 31 Blackcaps, 12 Goldcrests, a Tree Creeper, just 31 Blackbirds, 20 Fieldfares, a Brambling and single female Bullfinch.

Dull and overcast with light F2 north east winds. Watches 0700-1200.
It was a much calmer after the wind and rain the previous day allowing for several good birds to be found. The day started as a bit of a slow burner but in the end turned into maybe the second best day of the autumn. The highlight included Spurns 2nd Eastern Black Redstart, a superb male showing well at the point, a Humes Warbler and Dusky Warbler by Easington churchyard, a minimum of 7 Siberian Chiffchaffs among a throng of paler Chiffchaffs from the east, the male Northern Bullfinch still in Kilnsea, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers and 3 Firecrests. Other totals included 2 Jack Snipes, 9 Woodcocks, a Long-eared Owl, 26 Chiffchaffs, 15 Blackcaps, an Eastern Lesser Whitethroat, 90 Goldcrests, 10 Song Thrushes, 300 Redwings, 463 Blackbirds, 560 Fieldfares, 35 Robins, a male Black Redstart, 24 Chaffinches, 3 Bramblings and 10 Snow Buntings.

Early rain slowly cleared but remained damp and overcast along with a cool F6 north easterly. Watches 0700-1115.
The easterly wind delivered a nice arrival in poor conditions with sheltered spots holding birds in good numbers including 46 Woodcocks, a Long-eared Owl at Sammys, 19 Chiffchaffs which included several eastern types, 23 Blackcaps, a Garden Warbler, 2 Eastern Lesser Whitethroats, 3 Firecrests, 55 Goldcrests, 310 Redwings, 1110 Blackbirds, 453 Fieldfares, a Ring Ouzel, 80 Robins, 2 Black Redstarts, 32 Chaffinches, 4 Bramblings and a lovely male Northern Bullfinch.
The sea had quite a lot to offer so late in the autumn with 237 Brent Geese, 149 Wigeon, 18 Pintails, 399 Teal, 6 Tufted Ducks, a Velvet Scoter, 151 Common Scoters, 4 Red-breasted Mergansers, 3 Avocets, 24 Snipe, 22 Little Gulls, a Caspian Gull, single Great Skua, 2 Little Auks, 3 Red-throated Divers, a Leach's Petrel and 17 Gannets.

An awful day with constant rain sometimes heavy and strong F7 north easterly winds. Watches 0700-1520.
The shelter of the sesawatch hut was sought in poor conditions producing a few bits of interest including 3 Shovelers, 100 Common Scoters, 4 Goldeneyes, a Goosander, 18 Little Gulls, 691 Kittiwakes, 128 Common Gulls, 362 Herring Gulls, 3 Arctic Skuas, 2 Little Auks, 2 Fulmars and 2 Sooty Shearwaters.
There were some decent totals of grounded migrants with 22 Woodcocks, a Long-eared Owl in church field, 6 Blackcaps, just 4 Goldcrests, 17 Song Thrushes, 262 Redwings, 216 Blackbirds, 148 Fieldfares, 2 Bramblings and a Snow Bunting.

Bright and sunny albeit with a brisk F6 south west wind. Watches 0700-1100, 1220-1255.
A better day for vismig particularly Finches brought 69 Skylarks, 2 Swallows, 192 Starlings, an Alba Wagtail, 182 Chaffinches, 11 Greenfinches, 44 Linnets, 9 Lesser Redpolls, 571 Goldfinches, 546 Siskins and a Corn Bunting while the best of the sea included 70 Pink-footed Geese, a Velvet Scoter and 3 Great Northern Divers.
There were few grounded migrants again with just 2 Woodcocks, 26 Long-tailed Tits, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, 5 Chiffchaffs, 10 Goldcrests, a Black Redstart still at the point and 12 Snow Buntings. Beacon ponds had a Yellow-legged Gull, 358 Brent Beese, a Pale-bellied Brent and 7 Whooper Swans.

A rather wet day with constant light rain all day, and a stiff F5 south west wind. Watches 0645-1100.
The best of todays sightings were from the seawatchers and vismiggers but as has been much of this year it was slim pickings. Totals saw 13 Wigeons, 20 Teal, 3 Velvet Scoters, a Great Northern Diver, single Great White Egret, a Swallow and House Martin, 521 Starlings, 25 Meadow Pipits, 18 Chaffinches, a Brambling, 22 Linnets, 161 Goldfinches, 14 Siskins and 9 Reed Buntings.
Elsewhere an adult Yellow-legged Gull was on the Humber and 2 Snow Buntings wandered the area.

A dry start with rain moving in feeling colder in the F5 south westerly. Watches 0645-1100.
A somewhat quiet day around the area the highlights seeing a Velvet Scoter, 2 Tufted Ducks, a Goldeneye and a Great Northern Diver over the sea with a House Martin heading south overland.
Grounded migrants were few and far but included 5 Woodcocks, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers both in sykes field, 6 Chiffchaffs, a Black Redstart and single Bullfinch.

Overcast with rain by early afternoon with light south westerly winds. Watches 0645-1100.
There was unfortunately no sign of the Isabelline Wheatear but still similar numbers of other migrants including 3 Woodcocks, a Short-eared Owl, 3 Yellow-browed Warblers, 6 Chiffchaffs, a Firecrest in the crown carpark, 11 Goldcrests, a scatter of winter Thrushes, a Black Redstart at the point, Water Pipit west at Sammys and 2 Snow Buntings at the breach.
Some movement again including 4 Whooper Swans, 27 Wigeon, 2 Tufted Ducks, 5 Little Gulls, 14 Skylarks, 329 Starlings, 13 Meadow Pipits, 13 Chaffinches, 29 Goldfiinches, 197 Siskins and 2 Yellowhammers. Full counts on Trektellen.

Mainly cloudy with some short sunny spells and rain later on and a light wind.
A great day with several good birds on offer including our 6th Isabelline Wheatear found at the narrows giving good views up till dusk while a Pallid Swift likewise showed well on the south side of the gas terminal. There was a Pallas's Warbler in Easington at Hillrise with a tit flock while a Glossy Ibis dropped onto canal scrape eventually flying south heading out off the point. Also today a Red-necked Grebe was on the Humber, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers and 2 Firecrests. Grounded migrants included 4 Chiffchaffs, 4 Blackcaps, a late Garden Warbler in Easington, 11 Goldcrests, 135 Blackbirds, 2 Black Redstarts, 3 Stonechats and a Bullfinch.
Again some movement in the morning with 9 Whooper Swans, 3 Goldeneyes, a Goosander, 35 Stock Doves, 15 Lapwings, 66 Red-throated Divers, a Marsh Harrier, 23 Jackdaws, 31 Skylarks, 368 Starlings, 9 Tree Sparrows, a Grey Wagtail, 57 Chaffinches, a Brambling, 36 Greenfinches, 77 Goldficnhes, 71 Siskins and 2 Corn Buntings.

Mostly cloudy with lights F2 south westerly winds. Watches 0645-1100.
No sign of any Pallas's but there were 3 Yellow-browed Warblers (one colour ringed), 2 Firecrests and a Ring Ouzel the Passerine highlights. along with totals of 7 Chiffchaffs, 5 Blackcaps, just 12 Goldcrests, 110 Redwings, 205 Blackbirds, 2 Black Redstarts and a Brambling.
Very little on the move the more noteable counts being 28 Wigeons, 20 Teal, 9 Eiders, 34 Skylarks, a Swallow, 297 Starlings, 16 Chaffinches, 16 Goldfinches, 43 Siskins and 2 Yellowhammers.

Changable with some fog mid morning and a light south easterly. Watches 0645-1000.
There was a very good arrival of Thrushes mainly Blackbirds plus some great Duck movement over the sea. Grounded migrants included 7 Woodcocks, 2 Short-eared Owls, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, a Pallas's Warbler, a late Willow Warbler, 4 Chiffchaffs, a Siberian Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcaps, 2 Firecrests, 25 Goldcrests, 19 Sing Thrushes, 508 Redwings, 1000 Blackbirds, 250 Fieldfares, 42 Robins, a Black Redstart, 4 Bramblings and 30 Siskins.
Over the sea 4 Shovelers, 768 Wigeons, 3 Pintails, 726 Teal, 14 Tufted Ducks, 13 Eiders, 19 Common Scoters, 2 Goldeneyes, 2 Red-breasted Mergansers and a Great Crested Grebe while overland 62 Stock Doves, 717 Wood Pigeons, a Marsh Harrier, 29 Skylarks, 242 Starlings, 3 Alba Wagtails, 28 Meadow Pipits, 3 Rock Pipits, 74 Chaffinches, 47 Goldfinches and 32 Siskins.

Sunny spells with light south east winds. Watches 0645-1100.
A nice arrival of uncommon species set the tone for the day the highlight being 3 Pallas's Warblers (narrows, Sykes, Yew cottage), a Barred Warbler also at Yew cottage showing well feeding on apples, 2 Firecrests (sykes, Yew cottage), 2 Yellow-browed Warblers and a Siberian Chiffchaff. Other bits included 2 Woodcocks, 2 Short-eared Owls, 6 Chiffchaffs, 6 Blackcaps, 68 Goldcrests, 81 Redwings, 104 Blackbirds, 2 Ring Ouzels, 43 Robins, 3 Bramblings, 6 Twites, 8 Lesser Redpolls, a Lapland Bunting and 2 Snow Buntings.

Overcast with some light showers and a decreasing F3 south east wind. Watches 0645-1000.
Some light movement again during the morning including 17 Wigeon, 13 Teal, 33 Common Scoters, 12 Red-throated Diver, 11 Skylarks, a Grey Wagtail, 3 Rock Pipits, 29 Chaffinches, 4 Bramblings, 5 Greenfinches, 7 Crossbills, 54 Goldfinches and 42 Siskins.
Elsewhere a Black Brant was on beacon ponds with the Brent flock then flew west, the Snow Bunting remained on the clifftop at the warren but apart from an increase to 24 Goldcrests there was little else change. On beacon ponds both Spotted Redshank and Greenshank were present with a Goldeneye on the lagoons.

Mainly cloudy with some lengthy sunny spells with a stiff F6 south west wind. Watches 0645-1130.
A Yellow-browed Warbler was again at greenfield bungalows in Easington while other grounded migrant numbers diminished with just 3 Chiffchaffs, 2 Blackcaps, 11 Goldcrests, 22 Redwings, 6 Stonechats and the usual Snow Bunting still on the warren clifftop path.
A sizeable Flock of 10 Egyptian Geese was unexpected while a Velvet Scoter flew south but ulimately there was only small numbers of most birds on the move with a Swallow, 20 Chaffinches, 6 Greenfinches, 7 Lesser Redpolls, 99 Goldfinches and 16 Siskins.

Windy with a F6 south westerly but with sunny spells. Watches 0630-1130.
The sea provided much of todays interest with final totals of a Whooper Swan, 10 Wigeon, 2 Pintails, 137 Teal, 3 Goldeneyes, a Goosander, 4 Little Auks, 7 Red-throated Divers, 4 Great Northern Divers and a Black-throated Diver.
Elsewhere there were 304 Brent Geese, 3 Shovelers, 182 Wigeon, 2 Pintails and 102 Teal on beacon ponds while a scatter of grounded migrants included 113 Redwings,112 Fieldfares and the usual Snow Bunting just north of the warren.

A nice day with plenty of sunshine and lighter winds. Watches 0630-1000.
There was no sign of the Shore Larks but 3 Firecrests (sykes, Kew, Humberside lane) and single Snow Bunting still present in Kilnsea plus 7 Twites at the warren and a Mealy Redpoll in church field.
There was some reasonable southerly movement including 110 Pink-footed Geese, 7 Whooper Swans, a Velvet Scoter, 25 Common Scoters, a Goldeneye, 5 Goosanders, 67 Stock Doves, 144 Wood Pigeons, 29 Red-throated Divers, 5 Great Northern Divers, a Great White Egret, 8 Rooks, 35 Skylarks, a Swallow, 488 Starlings, 9 Tree Sparrows, 46 Chaffiinches, 4 Bramblings, 7 Greenfinches, 25 Linnets, 2 Crossbills, 89 Goldfinches, 102 Siskins and a Yellowhammer.

Sunny spells with a stiffening F6 south westerly wind and some showers late on. Watches 0630-1330.
The days highlight saw a late Common Swift fly south when most people would be thinking Pallid instead. Aslo moving 6 Rooks, 11 Skylarks, 940 Starlings, 4 Rock Pipits, 14 Chaffiches, a Brambling, 20 Lesser Redpolls, 53 Goldfinches and 5 Siskin while the sea chipped in with 22 Whooper Swans, 10 Shovelers, 907 Wigeon, 10 Pintails, 51 Teal, 4 Tufted Ducks, 2 Scaup, 5 Goldeneyes, 5 Goosanders, 38 Lapwings, a Ruff and a Great Northern Diver.
