Our calendar of events listing what's going on at Spurn.

Spring is one of the most exciting times of year at Spurn. As the days lengthen and the weather begins to warm, the area comes alive with migrating birds arriving from across Europe and beyond. Our Triangle Treks are a relaxed and enjoyable way to experience this special time of year and explore one of the best bird migration sites in the country.
These guided walks take place around the “Triangle” area of Spurn, an excellent spot for watching migration and discovering a wide range of wildlife. The route takes in a mix of farmland, hedgerows and coastal habitat, all of which can attract birds moving along the peninsula. Depending on the day, we might encounter anything from wheatears and warblers to birds of prey passing overhead, as well as the resident wildlife that calls the area home.
The walks are led by members of the Spurn Bird Observatory team, who will help point out birds and other wildlife, explain what’s happening during the spring migration period, and share a bit about the history and work of the Observatory. Whether you are new to birdwatching or already have some experience, the walks are designed to be relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and enjoy the surroundings.
Triangle Treks take place on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays between 28 April and 7 June, running from 10:30am until around 1:30pm. The pace is gentle, with regular stops to watch birds and take in the landscape.
Tickets cost £15 per person, with a discounted rate of £10 for Friends of Spurn. We also offer 20% off for visitors arriving by bike or public transport, as part of our effort to encourage greener travel to the peninsula.
If you’re looking for a relaxed way to experience Spurn in spring, learn more about bird migration, and spend a few hours exploring the area with knowledgeable guides, these walks are a great way to do it.

We hope to see you at Spurn this spring.
Spurn Bird Observatory will once again be heading to Global Birdfair over the weekend of 11th, 12th and 13th July, held at Lyndon Top, Rutland.
Global Birdfair is always a real highlight in the calendar and we are really looking forward to being there again this year. It is a great chance to catch up with familiar faces, meet new people, and chat all things Spurn.
Do come along and say hello on our stand at any point over the weekend. We will be on hand to talk about SBOT, what we do, and the ongoing work involved in keeping the Observatory operational. We will also be giving a series of talks across the weekend, sharing more about Spurn, our work on the ground, and why the Observatory continues to be such a special place.
Whether you are a long-standing member or just curious to find out more, it would be great to see you there and have a proper catch up.
You can find out more about Global Birdfair, including tickets and the full programme, here:

We hope to see plenty of Spurn faces over the weekend.

This years Friends of Spurn Barbecue will be Saturday 1st August, and as usual the SBOT Committee will be holding their AGM followed by a committee meeting.
Any Friend of Spurn is welcome to attend the AGM which will start at 11:00am, and/or the barbecue which will get underway at 17:00.
As with recent years, it will be held in the Observatory garden, with outdoor seating provided. Please bring your own beverages, and any snacks and nibbles, while the Observatory provides the barbecue food, including vegetarian and vegan options, although contributions of salads, cakes etc. are always welcomed!
It is a chance for us to say thank you to our loyal friends and supporters, welcome new friends, and gives us a chance to catch up with you all, discuss the upcoming autumn, enjoy some music and have a bit of fun along the way!
We'll also be accepting raffle and tombola prizes, so any donations for this will be warmly received by Paul Collins at Kew Villa in advance, or any of the committee on the day of the barbecue.
