Monday, 31 July 2023

A cloudy day with some rain about accompanied by a Moderate westerly. Watches: 05:00-10:00, 13:00-18:00. It was a much quieter day for movement over the sea the most noteable counts being 91 Oystercatcher, 72 Whimbrel, 6 Turnstones, 11 Knot, 15 Redshanks, a Wood Sandpiper, 85 Little Gulls and 14 Manx Shearwaters. Full counts on Trektellen. Nearby on the Humber there was a Curlew Sandpiper and a Juvenile Caspian Gull

Sightings from the ponds area were varied with plenty of Wildfowl, 2 Little Grebes, 6 Little-ringed Plovers plus the 2 chicks, 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Little Stints, 2 Common Sandpipers, a Greenshank, 123 Little Terns, 80 Common Terns and 90 Little Egrets

Grounded migrants saw at least 16 Willow Warblers recorded while 2 juvenile Cuckoos were in sykes field.

Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. PLEASE STAY WELL AWAY from the fenced area of beach, which is clearly signposted, and respect the wardens on duty. Up to 200 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

Sunny with some cloud and the threat of rain and a blustery F5 westerly. Watches: 0445-1900.  It was a great day for the vismiggers with plenty on the move especially Waders, early totals of 42 Oystercatchers, 21 Golden Plover, 4 Little-ringed Plovers, 167 Whimbrels, 3 Bar-tailed Godwit, 6 Black-tailed Godwits, 25 Turnstones, 322 Knot, a Ruff, 72 Sanderling, 146 Dunlin, a Little Stint, 122 Redshank and a Wood Sandpiper plus 8 Barnacle Geese, 14 Shelducks, 2 Tufted Ducks, 702 Swifts including several juveniles, 3 juvenile Caspian Gulls in/off, a Yellow-legged Gulls, 44 Sand Martins, 422 Swallows, 11 House Martins and 6 Yellow Wagtails.  Full counts to come.

A lovely sunny day with occasional heavy squals and a F3 south westerly. Watches: 0500-1000, 1200-1300, 1400-2000.  A PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was found early morning on the Humber off the Warren with 700 Golden Plover giving decent views and again off Sammys when flushed by a Peregrine. Waders were the flavour of the day with decent numbers on the move over the sea and grounded birds in the Kilnsea wetlands area with 4 Little-ringed Plovers, a Curlew Sandpiper, single Little Stint, a Spotted Redshank, 529 Redhsnak, 3 Greenshank and 7 Common Sandpipers. 

On the move 61 Oystercatchers, 11 Golden Plovers, 2 Ringed Plover, a Little-ringed Plover, 76 Whimbrel, 6 Black-tailed Godwit, 8 Turnstone, 102 Knot, a Ruff, 21 Sanderling, 59 Dunlin, a Snipe and 14 Redshank. Also moving were 12 Tufted Ducks, 5 Eider, 4 Red-breasted Merganser, 1387 Kittiwakes, a Hobby, 87 Sand Martins, 509 Swallows and 6 House Martins. 

Ringing: Willow Warbler 1, Whitethroat 1, Wren q1, Dunnock 2 (1 P).

Sunny with occasioanl cloud and a light south westerly.  Watch times: 05:00-10:00, 11:30-14:30, 17:00-20:30.  There was again some more Wader movement offshore as the trickle continues, today bringing 109 Oystercatcher, 3 Ringed Plovers, 117 Whimbrel, 5 Curlew, 12 Turnstone, 29 Knot, 52 Sanderlings, 90 Sanderling, a Snipe and 23 Redshanks along with toher noteable counts of 31 Teal and 2470 Kittiwakes with 313 Swallows overland.

On beacon ponds the pair of Little-ringed Plover with 2 chicks continued to thrive with the 2 Curlew Sandpipers nearby and a good count of 92 Little Egrets. Elsewhere 3 Caspian Gulls were at chalk bank and Short-eared Owl was in the triangle.

Ringing: 1 Wren, 2 House Sparrow, 4 Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap, 4 Linnet, 1 Meadow Pipit, 3 Tree Sparrow, 27 Swallow, 1 Reed Warbler, 10 Sand Martin, 2 Reed Bunting, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Yellow Wagtail. 59/13

Sunshine and cloud with a F3 westerly. Watches: 0600-2000.  Most of todays best sightings were again in the beacon ponds area with a Spotted Redshank, 2 Curlew Sandpipers, the 2 Little-ringed Plovers with 2 chicks and an adult Roseate Tern plus 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Ruff, 7 Common Sandpipers, a Green Sandpiper, 10 Mediterranean Gulls, a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull, 141 Little Terns and 64 Little Egrets.

Some movement over the sea was evident with 67 Oystercatchers, 7 Turnstones, 4 Knot, 22 Sanderlings, 9 Redshank, 906 Kittiwakes, 9 Manx Shearwaters and 2 Arctic Skuas while overland 225 Swallows flew south.

Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. PLEASE STAY WELL AWAY from the fenced area of beach, which is clearly signposted, and respect the wardens on duty. Up to 200 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

Sunny with patch cloud and a light south westerly. Watches: 0445-1900.  Beacon ponds saw an increase in Terns which no doubt saw the arrival of an adult Roseate Tern while there are now 2 Curlew Sandpiper present and the pair of Little-ringed Plover with 2 chicks still surviving. Other sightings around this area included 37 Avocets, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Common Sandpipers, a Yellow-legged Gull, 162 Little Terns and 59 Little Egrets.

The best of the offshore movement today were 36 Whimbrel, 17 Black-tailed Godwits, 111 Sanderling, 92 Dunlin, 45 Redshanks, 3268 Kittiwakes, 14 Arctic Terns, 2 Puffins, 21 Manx Shearwater and 1059 Gannets. Overland a good total of 912 Swallows flew south.

Back to clear skies and warm sunshine and a light westerly. Watches: 0500-2100.  The (same?) Curlew Sandpiper made a welcome re-appearance on beacon ponds where yet another good count of 236 Little Terns was made and the pair of Little-ringed Plover still present with 2 chicks. A Redwing in churchfield was maybe one of the birds seen earlier in the summer.

The sea was again quite fruitful for movement with 50 Shelducks, 12 Teal, 4 Tufted Ducks, a Goosander, 68 Oystercatchers, 10 Whimbrel, 22 Knot, 6 Sanderling, 19 Dunlin, 20 Redshanks, 2 Arctic skuas, 2600 Kittiwakes, 54 Manx Shearwater and 702 Gannets, while overland 60 Sand Martins, 41 Swallows and 11 Yellow Wagtails. 

Ringing: 1 Stock Dove, 4 Sand Martin, 2 Swallow, 2 Sedge Warbler, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Great Tit, 2 Wren. 19/8

Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. PLEASE STAY WELL AWAY from the fenced area of beach, which is clearly signposted, and respect the wardens on duty. Up to 200 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

A cloudy day with rain throughout and a F4 northerly. Watches: 0530-1900.  A surprise sightings saw a Rosefinch put in a couple of appearances at the Warren then flying off north with a Willow Warbler the only obvious Passerine addition. Maybe the biggest news came in the form of the frist confirmed breeding of Little-ringed Plovers when at least two small chicks were seen with the adults.

There was again some decent movement over the sea with a Brent Goose, male Velvet Scoter, 244 Oystercatchers, 3 Golden Plover, 26 Whimbrel, 6 Turnstone, 36 Knot, 29 Sanderling, 10 Dunlin, 8 Redshanks, 106 Sandwich Terns, 72 Manx Shearwaters and 275 Gannets. 

Other news from the Kilnsea wetlands area saw 8 Common Sandpipers, 2 Green Sandpipersm 13 Greenshank, 200 Little Terns and 51 Little Egrets.

A cloudy with varying amounts rain and drizzle and a moderate SW to W wind. Watches: 0500-1900.  It was another decent day over the sea for Seabirda and Waders which saw 3 Ruddy Shelduck head north along with good counts of 3253 Kittiwakes and 85 Manx Shearwaters. Further noteable counts were 14 Teal, 209 Common Scoters, 47 Oystercatchers, 122 Knot, 13 Dunlin, 6 Arctic Skuas and 864 Gannets plus a Hobby and single Crossbill which went south overland. 

Other noteable sightings were 331 Golden Plover on the Humber, 200 Little Gulls over the sea and 200 Little Terns and 55 Little Egrets on beacon ponds.

A cloudy day with rain and a F3 south westerly. Watches: 05:00-20:30.  It was another quiet day for the vismiggers the best being 69 Oystercatchers, 17 Whimbrels, 30 Knot, 15 Redshanks, 442 Kittiwakes, 707 Little Gulls, 83 Little Terns and 44 Manx Shearwaters. 

The Curlew Sandpiper and Spoonbill were both still at beacon ponds along with with 3 Common Sandpipers, 3 Greenshanks, 12 Arctic Terns, 60 Little Egrets and a Short-eared Owl in the same area.

A cloudier day but long sunny spells with a F3 north westerly. Watches: 0500-1000.  There were some noteable counts during the day with 6 Cuckoos in the area, a record 253 Little Terns at beacon ponds, 1145 Little Gulls feeding offshore along with 1437 Kittiwakes and 4 Black Terns. It was the quietest day for a while for movement with 31 Manx Shearwater and a Puffin the most noteable sightings. 

The best of the other sightings were up in the beacon ponds and Kilnsea wetlands area with the Curlew Sandpiper, 4 Common Sandpipers, a Green Sandpiper, 200 Redshanks, 11 Greenshank, a Spoonbill and 32 Little Egrets.

Up to 100 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

A sunny day with a F2 westerly. Watches: 0500-1900. In general there was less on the move over the sea but that didnt stop a Cory's Shearwater head north while other noteable counts were 48 Shelduck, 214 Swifts, 20 Manx Shearwater, 10 Dunlin, 10 Redshanks, 527 Little Gulls feeding offshore, 345 Kittiwakes, an Arctic Skua, 830 Razorbills included many males with their young, 468 Gannets, a Spoonbill, single Hobby, 292 Sand Martins, 356 Swallows, 5 House Martins and 5 Yellow Wagtails.

Other sightings saw the first returning 2 Willow Warblers at the Warren and a Juvenile Cuckoo in Sykes field, the summer plumage Curlew Sandpiper still at beacon ponds and 12 Greenshank on the Humber. 

Ringing: 3 Whitethroat, 1 Meadow Pipit, 2 Barn Owl (p), 1 Dunnock, 2 Wren, 2 Reed Warbler, 1 Starling, 2 Goldfinch, 11 Swallow, 8 Sand Martin. 33/10

A cloudy day with rain and a F2 north easterly.  Watches: 0600-2000. It was a busy day around the area with a good bit of movement over the sea again with 50 Oystercatcher, 15 Black-tailed Godwit, 44 Knot, 10 Sanderling, 140 Dunlin, 100 Redshank, 80 Sandwich Terns, 2 Arctic Skuas, 33 Manx Shearwater and a Shag while overland 566 Sand Martins continued the good run for them.

Kilnsea wetlands and beacon ponds was sgain lively with highlights of 2 Little-ringed Plovers, 7 Black-tailed Godwits, a Curlew Sandpipers, 4 Common Sandpipers, 7 Greenshank, 180 Little Gulls, 185 Little Terns included 82 fledged juveniles, 103 Sandwich Terns, 42 Arctic Terns, 2 Black Terns and 76 Little Egrets.

Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. Up to 100 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

A sunny day with a light F1 southerly. Watches: 0600-0900.  The first 2 Storm Petrels trapped in quite a few years despite plenty of effort was a suprise. The days other best offering was also over the sea with a Balearic Shearwater from the seawatch hut. Otherwise little was on the move the best being 46 Dunlin, a Marsh Harrier, 52 Sand Martin, 62 Swallows and 14 Yellow Wagtails. 

Noticeable increase in Waders saw counts of 150 Golden Plover and 5120 Dunlin on the Humber and 92 Redshanks, a Curlew Sandpiper and single Little Stint on beacon ponds

A sunny day with showers and a F4 south westerly. Watches: 0430-1600. It was a much quieter day overall with reduced numbers of birds on the move the most noteable of these just 619 Swifts, 29 Dunlin, 49 Redshank, 11 Whimbrel, 10 Manx Shearwater, 2 Grey Herons, 502 Sand Martins and a Grey Wagtail.

THe best of the sightings around Kilnsea wetlands and beacon ponds concerned a Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpipers, 300 Little Gulls, 100 Little Terns and 20 Little Egrets. Full counts of todays sightings on Trektellen.

A cloudy day with a blustery F6 south westerly. Watches: 0430-1600. The day was busy for the vismiggers at the Warren over both land and sea with counts of 5896 Swifts, a Cuckoo, 13 Oystercatchers, 5 Golden Plovers, 56 Whimbrels, 12 Curlews, 31 Black-tailed Godwits, 299 Knot, 94 Sanderling, 356 Dunlin, a Snipe, 450 Redshanks, 7 Mediterranean Gulls, a Yellow-legged Gull, 21 Sand Martins, 5 Swallows and 4 Siskins. 

Up in the KIlnsea wetlands and beacon ponds area there was a Ruff, single Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Greenshank, 120 Little Gulls, a Roseate Tern, 40 Arctic Terns, 20 Little Egrets and a juvenile Wheatear.

A generally sunny day with showers and a breezy F6 south westerly.  Watches: 0430-1915. Beacon ponds continued its run with yet another adult Roseate Tern different from the days previous birds but maybe concerning so early in the season. The ponds also has 120 Little Terns, 13 Common Terns, 45 Arctic Terns, 48 Sandwich Terns, 175 Little Gulls, 150 Black-headed Gulls, 7 Mediterranean Gulls and 48 Little Egrets.

There was some nice offshore Wader passage and decent totals with 24 Oystercatcher, 2 Avocet, a Grey Plover, 89 Whimbrel, 14 Curlew, 15 Bar-tailed Godwits, 15 Black-tailed Godwits, a Turnstone, 108 Knot, 12 Sanderling, 58 Dunlin, 28 Redshank and a Greenshank with the pick of the other sounts being 623 Kittiwakes, 771 Little Gulls, 2 Arctic Skuas and 924 Swifts.

Up to 100 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

A sunny day to start with heavy showers later and a breezy F6 south easterly. Watches: 0400-1200. Beacon ponds was again busy the highlight 4 Roseate Terns among the throng of other birds which included 517 Little Gulls, a Yellow-legged Gull, 43 Common Terns, 30 Arctic Terns, 120 Little Terns, 89 Sandwich Terns, 678 Dunlin, 2 Common Sandpipers, 2 Greenshank and 45 Little Egrets. Nearby on Kilnsea wetalnds 6 Little-ringed Plovers were the most noteable.

Offshore movement was again evident today bringing 19 Oystercacther, 6 Whimbrel, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 12 Knot, 8 Sanderling, 156 Dunlin, 126 Redshanks and 58 Little Gulls with 166 Sand Martins, 10 Yellow Wagtails and a Crossbill overland.

Sunny again with some cloud and a F3 south westerly. Watches: 04:00-09:00.  The best of the days sightings were from the Kilnsea wetlands area 8 Little-ringed Plovers, 15 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Common Sandpipers, 276 Little Gulls, a Yellow-legged Gull, 120 Little Terns, an unringed Roseate Tern, 20 Little Egret and a Short-eared Owl. 

A trickle of Waders over the sea saw 13 Oystercatcher, a Whimbrel, 3 Curlews 65 Dunlin and 54 Redshanks head south. Full counts on Trektellen.

Sunny with some cloud around and a F4 south westerly. Watches: 0400-1500.  The days highlight was a showy Long-eared Owl at the listening dish with a Curlew Sandpiper, 8 Common Sandpipers, 2 Greenshanks, 170 Little Gulls, 6 Mediterranean Gulls, a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull, 120 Little Terns and 38 Little Egrets nearby on beacon ponds and Kilnsea wetlands. 

The best of the movers were 2 Tufted Ducks, 2315 Swifts, 92 Redshanks, 25 Arctic Terns and 237 Sand Martins. Full counts on Trektellen.

A cloudier day than of late with sunny spells and showers on and off with a moderate south westerly. Watches: 0500-1800. The best day for several years saw 9005 Swifts fly south the day also seeing some other decent totals again with 33 Teal, 40 Whimbrels, 23 Curlew, 12 Black-tailed Godwits, 21 Knot, 91 Dunlin, a Common Sandpiper, 80 Redshank, 3 Grey Herons, a Hobby and 154 Sand Martins. The Temminck's Stint was still present on Kilnsea wetlands along with 2 Pintail, 12 Little-ringed Plovers, 12 Common Sandpipers, 200 Little Gulls, 25 Common Terns and 10 Arctic Terns.

Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. PLEASE STAY WELL AWAY from the fenced area of beach, which is clearly signposted, and respect the wardens on duty. Up to 100 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

Long periods of warm sunshine and a moderate south westerly. Watches: 0600-1200. The day saw some good passage offshore which mirrored increases on the Humber and beacon ponds. Moving were 65 Shelduck, 2 Tufted Ducks, 2000 Swift, 10 Oystercatchers, 3 Avocet, 6 Whimbrel, 10 Curlews, 3 Black-tailed Godwits, 61 Dunlin, 243 Redshanks, 2 Wood Sandpipers, 237 Sand Martins, 23 Swallows and 14 Starlings. The Temminck's Stint was present for its 7th day on Kilnsea wetlands and beacon ponds while counts of Waders from around the area included 110 Golden Plover, 264 Grey Plover, 9 Little-ringed Plovers, 16 Whimbrel, 950 Dunlin, 7 Common Sandpiper, a Green Sandpiper, 276 Redshank and 6 Greenshanks. Apart from the Stint the Kilnsea wetlands area also held 275 Little Gulls, 10 Mediterranean Gulls, a 2cy Caspian Gull and 29 Little Egrets.

Ringing: 3 Avocet (p), 8 Ringed Plover (p), 16 Little Tern (p), 5 Swallows (p), 1 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Sedge Warbler, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Great Tit, 1 Robin. 38/9.

A blue sky warm day with a F2 south westerly. Watches: 0340-1830. It was quite a busy day of movement over land and sea the pick of these a summer plumage PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER flying south calling repeatedly being seen briefly later at chalk bank with further varied totals of a Shoveler, 57 Teal, a Tufted Duck, 5 Eider, 22 Common Scoter, 2138 Swifts, 51 Oystercatcher, 78 Whimbrel, 22 Curlews, 4 Bar-tailed Godwits, 10 Black-tailed Godwits, 13 Knot, 10 Redshanks, 31 Manx Shearwater, a Grey Heron, 532 Sand Martins, 34 Swallows, 6 Tree Sparrows, 11 Yellow Wagtails, 6 Alba Wagtails and 2 Corn Buntings.

The Temminck's Stint was again on Kilnsea wetlands and the adult Roseate Tern gracing beacon ponds along with 26 Teal, 4 Little-ringed Plovers, 2 Common Sandpipers, 70 Redshanks, 348 Little Gulls, 18 Mediterranean Gulls, 48 Sandwich Terns, 22 Common Terns, 2 Arctic Terns and 38 Little Egrets.

Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. PLEASE STAY WELL AWAY from the fenced area of beach, which is clearly signposted, and respect the wardens on duty. Up to 100 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

A generally sunny day, showers in the afternoon with a variable moderate wind. Watches: 03:45-17:00. The day began with a Nightjar at the breach which landed in the fenced off area but there was further sign, The Temminck's Stint was again at Kilnsea wetlands showing on and off with 308 Little Gulls very vocal mainly around beacon ponds where an adult Roseate Tern put in several appearances. 

There was again some varied and decent movement for the vis miggers totals of 52 Shelducks, 78 Teal, 9 Tufted Ducks, 22 Eider, 778 Common Scoter, a Red-breasted Merganser, 2274 Swifts, 24 Whimbrel, 55 Curlew, 7 Redshanks, a Greenshank, 22 Kittiwakes, an Arctic Skua, a Hobby, 172 Sand Martins and 18 Swallows. Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. PLEASE STAY WELL AWAY from the fenced area of beach, which is clearly signposted, and respect the wardens on duty. Up to 100 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

A generally sunny day with a F3 south westerly. Watches: 0400-1700.  It was a busier day of over sea and land that of late with some good totals with 5 Shelduck, 5 Teal, 3 Tuftted Ducks, 410 Common Scoter, 163 Swifts, 9 Whimbrel, 54 Curlews, 29 Black-tailed Godwits. 23 Dunlin, 34 Redshanks, 59 Kittiwakes, 30 Little Gulls, 37 Manx Shearwaters, 306 Gannets, a Shag, 950 Sand Martins, 25 Swallows, 3 Yellow Wagtails, 2 Crossbills and 4 Siskins.

Up in the Kilnsea wetlands and beacon ponda area the Temminck's Stint was still present with now 3 Spotted Redshanks in summer plumage plus 4 Little-ringed Plovers, 318 Dunlin, 4 Common Sandpipers, 28 Redshanks, 157 Little Gulls, 15 Mediterranean Gulls, 10 Common Terns, 2 Arctic Terns, the Spoonbill and a Short-eared Owl.

Sunny spells and a F3 north westerly. Watches: 0415-1000.  A Temminck' Stint was a suprise mid summer visitor to Kilnsea wetlands where 200 Little Gulls were an impressive sight along with 32 Mediterranean Gulls and the Spoonbill and a Caspian Gull were both present. The wetlands area also held 2 Wigeon, 11 Teal, a Cuckoo, 25 Avocets, 3 Little-ringed Plovers, 10 Black-tailed Godwits, 300 Dunlin including the first returning juvenile, 5 Common Sandpipers, 70 Redshanks, a Spotted Redshank, 3 Greenshanks and 28 Little Egrets. Elsewhere 119 Curlews were on long bank and a Tree Creeper trapped at Kew.

There was very little on the move the more noteable sightings being 9 Curlews, 10 Redshanks, 4 Puffins, 27 Manx Shearwaters, 30 Sand Martins and 24 Swallows.

Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. PLEASE STAY WELL AWAY from the fenced area of beach, which is clearly signposted, and respect the wardens on duty. Up to 100 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

A generally sunny day and a less blustery F4 westerly. Watches: 0400-1600. An overnight increase in Wader numbers saw totals of 8 Little-ringed Plovers, 200 Grey Plovers, 1200 Dunlin (Humber), 102 Curlews, 45 Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Common Sandpipers, 40 Redshanks and 3 Greenshank while the summer plumaged Spotted Redshank moved to Easington lagoons. 

Kilnsea wetlands again bustled with life with a Wigeon, 12 Teal, 41 Avocets, 86 Little Gulls, 10 Mediterranean Gulls, a Caspian Gull, 3 Arctic Terns, the 'grotty' Spoonbill plus the usual Grasshopper Warbler and both Barn Owl and Little Owl nearby.

Some southerly movement for the vis miggers brought 16 Barnacle Geese, just 30 Swifts, 2 Grey Herons, 2 Marsh Harriers, 129 Sand Martins and 5 Crossbills

Long sunny spells and cloud with a continued blustery F6 westerly. Watches: 0400-1700.  It was another good day for Waders around the area so early in the 'autumn' with today serving up 14 Avocets, 5 Little-ringed Plovers, 11 Whimbrel, 47 Black-tailed Godwits, 119 Dunlin, a Wood Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpipers, a Greenshank, 30 Redshank and a Spotted Redshank

The Kilnsea wetlands area apart from the good array of Waders also held 2 Little Grebes, 6 Teal, 92 Little Gulls, 6 Mediterranean Gulls, 35 Sandwich Terns, 2 Arctic Terns, a Spoonbill, 9 Little Egrets and the Grasshopper Warbler. 

Ringing: 1 Blackbird (p), 1 Robin (p), 2 Whitethroat, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Blue Tit, 1 Goldfinch. 7/6.

Polite reminder for all visitors: the Little Tern colony at Beacon Ponds is extremely vulnerable to disturbance. Up to 100 birds are present in the colony and can be viewed well from the flood bank.

A warm sunny day with the odd patch of cloud and a blustery F6 westerly. Watches: 0600-1700.  There was little change overall but as each day passes Wader numbers increase on the Humber as the earlier returning breeders build which has been bourne out over the sea with daily movements heading south along with a decent array of Seabirds. The highlight of today though was an adult Roseate Tern on Kilnsea wetlands which put in a couple of appearances during the evening. The immediate area also had 10 Avocets, 4 Little-ringed Plover, 26 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Common Sandpipers, 35 Redshank, a Greenshank, 43 Little Gulls, 12 Mediterrnanean Gulls, 48 Sandwich Terns, 9 Common Terns, an Arctic Tern, the Spoonbill and the Grasshopper Warbler still reeling.

The best of any movement saw 204 Swifts, 4 Whimbrel, 10 Curlews, 8 Black-tailed Godwits, 22 Dunlin, a Green Sandpiper, an Arctic Skua, 112 Guillemots, 6 Puffins, 18 Manx Shearwater, 339 Gannets, 122 Sand Martins and 3 Siskins. Full counts on Trektellen.

A cloudy with a brisk F4 south westerly. Watches: 0415-1900. The continued winds from the south west, a somewhat rare event these days saw another 5339 Swift fly south with a Hobby, Cuckoo and 105 Sand Martins heading the same way while over the sea 30 Common Scoter, 24 Curlews, 5 Whimbrel, 75 Black-tailed Godwit and 28 Manx Shearwater were the most noteworthy.

The Spoonbill was still on Kilnsea wetlands along with 13 Little Egrets, 29 Redshanks, 3 Greenshank, 13 Little Gulls and 15 Mediterranean Gulls with 500 Dunlin on the Humber. Elsewhere 2 Spotted Flycatcher were unusual for the time of year in Kilnsea.

Ringing: 1 Great-spotted Woodpecker, 3 Blue Tit, 1 Great Tit, 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Robin (p). 7/5
