We’re pleased to announce that a new viewing hide at Beacon Ponds is now complete and open to visitors.

Over recent weeks, a significant amount of work has gone into building and installing the hide, alongside the addition of a new viewing screen. The project has been designed to improve access to the Lagoons while helping to minimise disturbance, particularly as we approach the Little Tern breeding season.

The hide was built from scratch, with panels constructed off-site before being transported and assembled in position. Screening has been installed in front of the hide to provide a clear view across the water while reducing the risk of disturbance to birds using the area.

This has been a true team effort. The hide was built by Graham Speight and Rich Swales, with support from Paul Willoughby, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, and a dedicated group of volunteers who gave their time to help complete the project. We are extremely grateful to everyone involved.

The project has been made possible through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

We ask that all visitors stick to the established routes when accessing the hide and make full use of the screening when viewing. These measures are in place to help protect this sensitive site and give breeding birds the best possible chance over the coming months.
