We're close to another New Year and another Birdrace again. And we have another great conservation cause to help - Beacon Ponds breeding Little Terns.
The date for the birdrace will be SUNDAY 8th JANUARY 2023. The 1st January was also considered but some teams have other things happening this day (relatives, football, hangovers etc), so we're going with the 8th.
We are also sticking with the 'green format' meaning that this will be a NON-MOTORISED event again. So, it's either cycles or walking to get around your chosen site during the day. Vehicles can be used to get to your chosen site and meet your team mates but must then be parked up and not used again until your birding day is finished.
The 2023 Birdrace is raising funds for the BEACON PONDS LITTLE TERN COLONY at Easington, Spurn. This important site has lost some funding for the 2023 season and it is hoped that money raised from the Birdrace will help bridge the funding gap.
Finally, please make sure you get your teams final totals at the end of the day to grahamspeight@hotmail.com so we know how many teams took part and who saw what. Please include;- team name, location covered, number of species recorded, cycling or walking or both, distance covered, contact details (some email addresses are still missing) anything else interesting. And then donate to the fund.....
If any other person or teams are interested in taking part they are more than welcome, the more teams the more money to help Little Terns!
