Join Our Winter Volunteer Work Parties – Accommodation & Brunch Included!

Winter is one of the most important times of the year for looking after the habitats that make Spurn such a special place for wildlife. As we get ready for another busy season, we are inviting volunteers old and new to join our Winter Work Parties – a brilliant opportunity to lend a hand, learn new skills, meet like-minded people and enjoy a cosy stay at the Observatory. Whether you're a regular at Spurn or you’ve never volunteered with us before, you are warmly invited to get involved.

What’s Involved?

Our winter work parties focus on essential habitat maintenance, reserve tidy-ups, and practical jobs that keep Spurn functioning for both wildlife and people. Tasks vary depending on conditions, but may include:

  • vegetation clearance

  • pathway and access maintenance

  • preparing the Observatory grounds for spring

  • small repairs and practical conservation tasks

No prior experience is needed – just enthusiasm, a willingness to muck in, and appropriate outdoor clothing. Our team will guide you through everything.

Free Accommodation & Brunch

To say thank you, we provide:

  • Free accommodation in the Observatory for all volunteers

  • A hearty brunch to fuel the morning’s efforts

  • Tea, coffee and good company throughout the weekend

It’s a great chance to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Spurn in winter, watch wildlife, meet fellow volunteers and do something genuinely meaningful.
