Dear friends and supporters,
URGENT APPEAL
I hope that you and your families are staying safe and well during these very difficult times. Like all charities we here at Spurn Bird Observatory are facing an immense survival challenge over the coming months as we have now had to close down the Observatory and our caravan sites, all of which provide much needed income to keep the Observatory afloat. Obviously, we are actively pursuing the support schemes provided by the government, but this will not fill the huge gaps that the COVID-19 pandemic leaves behind.
It is now that the Observatory is in need of our friends' support more than ever. Rather than just launch a ‘Go-Fund-Me-donation-push’ we as a committee have decided that the best way to be fair to everyone is to run a series of quizzes, prize draws and auctions which we believe will be much more engaging and provide some entertainment for all, whilst supporting the Observatory. The prizes will range in value from a few pounds to several thousand pounds. We are also planning to screen a series of Spurn online talks over the coming weeks that will include subjects related to the Observatory, ID features and assorted birding/migration topics.
We will launch Lock Down Quiz No.1 on Thursday 9th April. It will be a challenging one, of course, and test even the best. You will need a copy of the Birds of Spurn by Andy Roadhouse so if you don’t have a copy then visit the Spurn online shop and buy one today. There will be a small quiz entrance fee but the winner will take home a valuable prize, to be announced. All the instructions on how to take part including details of the follow on draws and auctions etc. will be found on the website and through our social media platforms from Wednesday 8th April.
Obviously the success of the above does depend on a supply of prizes of which we have already collected around 30 but we could do with a few more. If you think that you can donate something that would be of value to our audience then please contact me direct on robertadams141@btinternet.com.
In parallel with the above, we are still working hard to complete the Spurn Wildlife 2019 report, despite the difficulties both logistically and financially the COVID-19 pandemic is causing to the production. We are hopefully that it will be available by June 2020.
Finally it just leaves me to say please do look after yourselves and others by staying at home, stay safe and save lives.

Chairman and Treasurer of Spurn Bird Observatory Trust Ltd
SPURN ONLINE LOCK DOWN EVENTS GO LIVE ON WEDNESDAY 8th APRIL 2020! www.spurnbirdobservatory.co.uk
Vouchers: In response to the COVID-19 outbreak we have now added vouchers to our online shop. These can be used for purchases of Spurn Bird Observatory merchandise, accommodation costs for staying at the Observatory and events. Please note these are not redeemable on the Spurn Migration Festival 2020. We are also unable to redeem the vouchers through the online shop for the moment.
These vouchers are designed so that you can support the Observatory during these hard times and redeem them once the lockdown/COVID-19 outbreak is over.
