Royal Recognition: Robert Adams Honoured in King's New Year Honours

In recognition of his contributions to Spurn Bird Observatory Trust and the local community, Robert Adams has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) as part of the King’s New Year Honours List for 2025. This prestigious accolade highlights his exceptional dedication to services to local wildlife.

The British Empire Medal is awarded to individuals for meritorious service and outstanding achievements. Robert Adams’ tireless work has left a profound impact on the observatory.

"I am extremely honoured, both for myself and for Spurn, to have received this prestigious award. It has been a team effort from the very start, and I am eternally grateful to you all for your support throughout. Spurn continues to be ‘A Magical Place’."

Robert joined the observatory committee in 2010, became vice-chair in 2012, and then Chair in 2014. His visionary stewardship has propelled Spurn Bird Observatory Trust to unprecedented heights of success, including driving Migfest to become one of the most popular events on the birding calendar to, most recently, leading the complete rebuild of the staff accommodation impressively ahead of time and within budget!

The announcement was made as part of the King’s New Year Honours List, which celebrates outstanding achievements and service across the UK. The medal will be presented at an official ceremony later this year.
