The second BLACK KITE of the spring wandered south over Easington, circled over Sammys gaining height and eventually heading off south towards Lincolnshire. THe day also saw the Wryneck again being elusive from the Bluebell to canal scrape, a male Pied Flycatcher at the point, the 1st Hobby and Garden Warbler of the year, 2 Ring Ouzel (sammys and Warren), the Spoonbill flew off early morning from Kilnsea wetlands and 10 Arctic Tern out east.

Sunny spells and a F3 north easterly. Watches: 0600-1400.

There was no sign of the Subalpine Warbler or the Wryneck with migrants represented by 18 Whimbrel, a Curlew Sandpiper on beacon ponds, a Swift flew north, 4 Willow Warbler, the Siberian Chiffchaff in corner field, 11 Chiffchaff, 7 Blackcap, 13 Whitethroat, 3 Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Ring Ouzel, 8 Fieldfare, 2 Black Redstart, 2 Redstart, 2 Whinchat, 2 Wheatear, a Yellow Wagtail and 5 Brambling.

The Spoonbill was again on Kilnsea wetlands , the Black Brant on the Humber, 9 Barnacle Geese flew out east and 2 Goosander flew north.

Ringing: 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, 1 Redwing, 1 Robin, 1 Goldfinch.

The female (western?) SUBALPINE WARBLER sp remains elusive along the canal, but was heard to call today and along with the tail pattern is probaly Western. The Wryneck re-appeared near the visitor centre and among todays migrants a good totall of 6 Ring Ouzel (inc 3 together at Sammys), a Whinchat in the triangle, Black Redstart at Southfield farm, 8 Brambling at the point, the Black Brant on the Humber and a Spoonbill at KIlnsea wetlands.

A female SUBALPINE WARBLER sp was found along the canal but remained elusive throughtout. It was trapped and ringed so hopefully DNA will come to the rescue in its identity. Other sightings were 2 Ring Ouzel (Kew and Sammys), 2 Cuckoo at Sammys, 23 Arctic Tern out north east and a Green Sandpiper.

Cloudy start brightening to a sunny day with a cold F4 north easterly. Watches: 0600-1500.

The Wryneck remained elusive around corner field, but little change in other migrant numbers with 5 Whimbrel, 2 Green Sandpiper, 6 Willow Warbler, 10 Chiffchaff, 7 Blackcap, 2 Ring Ouzel, 8 Fieldfare, 2 Black Redstart at southfield farm a Redstart, 3 Wheatear, a Tree Pipit and 2 Siskin.

The Black Brant remained on long bank along with 2 Pale-bellied Brent and 263 Brent Geese.

Ringing: 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 1 Blackbird.

Continuing coolF5 northeasterly, pleasant in the sun in sheltered areas. Watches: 0600-1500.

The best of the day was a Wryneck found in Corner field which proved elusive at times. Migrant numbers were still low with 5 Whimbrel, a Common Sandpiper, 6 Willow Warbler, 16 Chiffchaff, 6 Sedge Warbler, a Grasshopper Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 14 Whitethroat, 2 Ring Ouzel, 8 Fieldfare, a Redwing, 3 Song Thrush, a Black Redstart, male Redstart, 2 Wheatear, a Yellow Wagtail and a Brambling.

The Black Brant was again at Long bank and Kilnsea wetlands along with 6 Pale-bellied Brent among a good total of 439 Dark-bellied Brents. Also present were 4 Shoveler, 13 Gadwall, 10 Wigeon, 41 Teal, a Goldeneye, 5 Avocet and a Short-eared Owl.

Ringing: 2 Chiffchaff, 3 Robin, 1 Song Thrush.

There was a nice selection of species on offer during the day, a tatty 2cy Raven wandered the area, the Hoopoe put in another appearance during its elusive stay, a nice male Hawfinch in fruit trees at cliff farm, the Black Brant on long bank with 2 Pale-bellied Brents among the Brent flock and 7 Arctic Tern flew out east. 

While yet again there were no big numbers there was a decent haul of migrants throughout the area with 2 Common Sandpiper, a Greenshank, 5 Willow Warbler, 3 Grasshopper Warbler, 4 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Ring Ouzel, 8 Fieldfare, 2 Redwing, 4 Song Thrush, a Mislte Thrush, 2 Black Redstart, 6 Wheatear, 4 Yellow Wagtail, a White Wagtail and a Brambling.

Moving were 3 Eider, a Little-ringed Plover, 117 Curlew out east, a Jay, 18 Rook, 45 Carrion Crow, 11 Swallow, 3 Flava Wagtail, 2 White Wagtail, 4 Alba Wagtail, a Brambling, 29 Linnet, 11 Goldfinch and 4 Siskin.

Ringing: 1 Blackcap.

Sunny with a cold F4 north easterly. Watches: 0555-1400.

The Hoopoe was refound today at Sammys, but was never settled and later flew down to the triangle before returning back north, but went to ground. 

Other sightings were a Spotted Redshank on Kilnsea wetlands, 2 Ring Ouzel (Kilnsea wetlands and point), 2 Black Redstart (Easington and point), Common Sandpiper on the Humber, 3 Jay wandering the area and 3 Lesser Whitethroat and 2 Brambling.

Not much on the move the best being 2 Marsh Harrier and a Corn Bunting.

Ringing: 1 Magpie, 1 Jay.

Hazy sunshine again with a cold F4 northeasterly. Watches: 0555-1400.

A HOOPOE was found late in the day on beacon lane flying off towards westmere farm, but no further sign by dusk. There was little change otherwise in migrants the best of those being a Redstart, 1 Ring Ouzel and a Brambling. 

The day aslo saw another 14 Arctic Tern head out east along with 4 Golden Plover, 50 Curlew and 8 Bar-tailed Godwit, while heading south 21 Swallow, 10 Linnet, 18 Goldfinch, 2 Siskin and a Yellowhammer continued the generally stagnant period of passage. Full counts as usual on Trektellen.

Ringing: 2 Starling, 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 3 Blackbird, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Chaffinch, 1 Goldfinch.

Sunny again hazy at times with a F3 north easterly. Wattches: 0955-1800.

It was a similar day to the previous albeit without the good birds thrown in. The easterly wind did bring the first 2 Arctic Tern and single Arctic Skua heading out east from the Humber. The sea did bring the biggest surprise with a pod of 10-15 Bottle-nose Dolphins (with a calf) heading north as did a Manx Shearwater. The sea also had a Fulmar, 34 Curlew out north east and 2 Little Gull. Overland it was quieter with numbers much reduced. Full counts on Trektellen.

Migrant wise the totals were similar with 8 Willow Warbler, the Siberian Chiffchaff still in corner field, 5 Chiffchaff, 6 Blackcap, 11 Whitethroat, 2 Redwing, 3 Wheatear, 2 Yellow Wagtail, a Brambling and 3 Siskin.

Other sightings mainly from the Kilnsea wetlands area included 180 Brent Geese, a male Red-breasted Merganser, 7 Avocet, a Little-ringed Plover, 1 Green Sandpiper, a Greenshank and 1 Short-eared Owl.

Ringing: 1 Starling, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, 1 Blackbird, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Robin, 1 Goldfinch.

Hazy sunshine with a coll F3 north easterly. Watches: 0600-1400.

It was a good day for the vismiggers, not for numbers, but the few good birds thrown in. The best were a BLACK KITE past the Warren and south east out to sea and a RED-RUMPED SWALLOW which eventually flew south. Also moving were 6 Magpie, 21 Jackdaw, 50 Rook, 8 Carrion Crow, 2 Skylark, 2 Sand Martin, 3 Swallow, 4 Fieldfare, 2 Yellow Wagtail, an Alba Wagtail, 11 Meadow Pipit, 7 Chaffinch, 12 Linnet and 8 Goldfinch.

The day also saw the first Cuckoo and Lesser Whitethroat of the year along with a Green Sandpiper, 32 Sand Martin, 15 Swallow, a House Martin, 5 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, 3 Sedge Warbler, 8 Blackcap, 17 Whitethroat, a Ring Ouzel, 1 Mistle Thrush, a Redwing, 5 Wheatear, 3 White Wagtail, 2 Brambling and a Siskin.

Ringing: 1 Blackcap, 5 Linnet.

Sunny spells and hazy sunshine with a cool F3 north easterly. Watches: 0605-1400.

The years first Whinchat was just south of the Warren, a Hawfinch in Easington, there were 4 Ring Ouzel including a showy male on Clubleys and 3 White Wagtails on Easington playing fields. Other totals were 2 Whimbrel, 18 Willow Warbler, 6 Chifchaff, a Sedge Warbler, 10 Blackcap, 5 Whitethroat, 7 Fieldfare, 9 Song Thrush, 16 Wheatear and 4 Yellow Wagtail.

There was again some movement but still a fraction of what would be expected at this time of year, the best being another 188 Curlew heading out north east along with 47 Bar-tailed Godwit, while heading south were a Barnacle Goose, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Mediterranean Gull, a Jay u-turned, 7 Rook, 40 Carrion Crow, 4 Sand Martin, 24 Swallow, 5 Flava Wagtail, 2 Alba Wagtail, 3 Chaffinch, 72 Linnet and 11 Goldfinch.

Ringing: 1 Collared Dove, 5 Willow Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, 3 Blackcap, 1 Wren, 1 Wheatear, 5 Tree Sparrow, 1 Goldfinch.

Hazy sunshine with a cold F3 north easterly.  Watches: 0555-1400.

Sightings from the day included the first Grasshopper Warbler of the year at Sammys with a nice male Black Redstart present nearby, a Ring Ouzel along the peninsula, a Siberian Chiffchaff in corner field, the male Pied Flycatcher still at middle camp with other totals of 2 House Martin, 18 Willow Warbler, 12 Chiffchaff, 4 Sedge Warbler, 7 Blackcap, 10 Whitethroat, 5 Fieldfare, 2 Redstart, 8 Wheatear, a Tree Pipit, 1 Brambling and a Siksin.

On the move were a flock of 26 Barnacle Geese , a nice flock of 5 Velvet Scoter, 31 Woodpigeon, 5 Jay, 19 Jackdaw, 21 Rook, 28 Carrion Crow, 6 Sand Martin, 18 Swallow, a Flava Wagtail, 2 White Wagtail, 6 Chaffinch, a Brambling, 36 Linnet, 37 Goldfinch, 3 Siskin and 2 Reed Bunting.

Ringing: 2 Willow Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 2 Blackbird, 1 Meadow Pipit, 2 Goldfinch.

A nice sunny day, cooll in the F3 south easterly.  Watches: 0600-1300.

A slightly better day for the vismiggers but still the wind continues from the wrong direction, but generally similar numbers of migrants though the first Pied Flycatcher, a male was at the narrows along with a Jack Snipe at southfield farm, 25 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, 9 Blackcap, 8 Whitethroat, 6 Fieldfare, 4 Wheatear, 2 Brambling and 2 Siskin.

On the move were 116 Curlew out east, 3 Kestrel, 2 Jay, 8 Jackdaw, 6 Rook, 15 Carrion Crow, 2 Skylark, 4 Swallow, 2 Alba Wagtail, 6 Meadow Pipit, 92 Linnet, 18 Goldfinch, 4 Siskin and 14 Yellowhammer.

Other sightings included a Pintail, 45 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck and 2 Red-breasted Merganser in the KIlnsea wetlands area.

Ringing: 2 Jay, 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Wren, 4 Goldfinch.

A cloudy start then sunny spells with a F3 south easterly. Watches: 0640-1200.

Decent if unspectacular numbers of migrants remain, a Firecrest and Ring Ouzel at the Point the stand out birds along with 19 Willow Warbler, 12 Chiffchaff, 2 Sedge Warbler, 6 Blackcap, 2 Whitethroat, 10 Fieldfare, 3 Redwing, a Redstart, 6 Wheatear, 2 Yellow Wagtail, a Tree Pipit, 1 Brambling and 2 Siskin. 

It was another poor day for vismig, a Marsh Harrier, 3 Sand Martin, 5 Swallow, 6 Meadow Pipit and 2 Siskin the best!

Ringing: 1 Willow Warbler, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap.

Sightings from the day included an Osprey over the Humber which caught a fish, the first Tree Pipit of the year heading north, a Woodlark over the visitor centre, a Hawfinch and Spoonbill over Easington with 3 Little-iringed Plover still on KIlnsea wetlands.

It was another good day with some more firsts for the year, an Osprey heading north west and an early Swift making its way south past the Warren, with increases to 7 Whitethroat while other migrants moved on. Totals for the day were 3 Little-ringed Plover on Kilnsea wetlands, a Greenshank, 6 Sand Martin, 10 Swallow, 4 Willow Warbler, 11 Chiffchaff, a Sedge Warbler, 6 Blackcap, a Ring Ouzel, 3 Redwing, 2 Song Thrush, 3 Black Redstart, a Redstart, 1 Stonechat, 31 Wheatear, 3 Yellow Wagtail, a White Wagtail, 1 Brambling and 2 Siskin with the Cettis Warbler still singing at the Point.

There was some good movement with a brilliant 'bubbling' of 156 Curlew heading out east and 3 Barnacle Geese (which were colour ringed) tracked down the east coast to Gib point, having been ringed as part of a scheme at Holkham. Aslo moving were a Marsh Harrier, 2 Whimbrel, 17 Sand Martin, 6 Swallow, a Flava Wagtail, 2 Chaffinch, 2 Siskin, a Corn Bunting and 3 Yellowhammer.

The Kilnsea wetlands area held 22 Mute Swan, the Whooper Swan, 2 Red-breasted Merganser, 3 Pintail, 6 Black-tailed Godwit and a Short-eared Owl. 

Ringing: 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Redwing, 1 Robin, 1 Bullfinch.

Overcast with a moderate F2 south easterly. 

Spring finally burst into life with an influx of migrants into the area and several firsts for the year with 3 Redstart (warren and sammys), 2 Yellow Wagtail at Kilnsea wetlands, Common Whitethroat in Easington, a House Martin over the visitor centre and 4 Whimbrel. The days other migrant totals included 3 Ring Ouzel, 11 Redwing, 11 Song Thrush, a Stonechat, 4 Black Redstart, a White Wagtail, 32 Wheatear, 10 Blackcap, 21 Willow Warbler and Brambling plius 22 Siskin, 8 Sand Martin and 4 Swallow flew south.

Ringing: 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, 2 Wheatear, 1 Redstart.

Sunny start clouding over and a F1 south westerly. Watches: 0630-1015.

There were two firss for the year with a Willow Warbler singing at the potato fields and a Sedge Warbler at Sammys, but still few other back up migrants with a Great White Egret, 8 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap, a Goldcrest, 60 Redwing, 4 Song Thrush, 2 Brambling and 2 Siskin.

A trickle of vismig with 34 Curlew out east, 8 Stock Dove, 2 Jackdaw, 24 Rook, a Skylark, 1 Swallow, 6 Alba Wagtail, 2 Chaffinch and a Goldfinch.

Ringing: 1 Chiffhcaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Chaffinc, 1 Goldfinch.

Sunny periods before it cloded over and a cold F1-2 north westerly.  Watches: 0700-1400.

The best of the day was the re-appearance? of the Green Woodpecker in Kilnsea, a Jay at the Warren, the Cetti's Warbler still at the Point and a Black Redstart in the area. There was a scatter of other migrants around the area with 3 Sandwich Tern and a Sand Martin north, 6 Chiffchaff, a Blackcap, 6 Redwing, a Stonechat, 1 White Wagtail, a Brambling and 3 Siskin.

The Whooper Swan remained on Kilnsea wetlands, 385 Brent Geese still hanging on, 24 Shoveler, 4 Pintail, 60 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck and a Goldeneye in the longbank/ Kilnsea wetlands area.

Ringing: 1 Blackcap, 1 Great Tit, 2 Blackbird, 1 Redwing, 2 Chaffinch, 1 Brambling, 3 Goldfinch.

Sunny spells with a F2 north westerly. Watches: 0700-1000.

Another day with little change and few migrants the best of which were 2 Sandwich Tern north, a Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaff, 6 Redwing, 2 Stonechat, a Wheatear and 2 White Wagtail.

Elsewhere a Pale-bellied Brent with 350 Brent Geese, the 3 Pink-footed Geese in the triangle and the Whooper Swan on KIlnsea wetlands.

Ringing: 3 Blackbird, 3 Redwing, 1 Great Tit.

Cloudy with showers and a F5 north westerly. Watches: 0955-1515.

There was little change overall the Spoonbill still on long bank marsh and the few migrants still about inculded 2 Chiffchaff, a Blackcap, 2 Black Redstart, 2 Stonechat, a Wheatear, 2 White Wagtail and 3 Siskin.

There was little on the move the best 6 Sandwich Tern over the sea.

Elsewhere a Pale-bellied Brent was with 270 Brents, the Whooper Swan still on KIlnsea wetlands and 3 Pink-footed Geese and 6 Canada Geese in the triangle.

Ringing: 1 Goldfinch, 1 Siskin.

Sunny spells with showers and a F4 westerly.  Watches: 0715-0930.

There was no sign of the Spoonbill but the Black Brant reappeared again on the Humber with a Pale-bliied Brent among 520 Brents. The Whooper Swan continued on Kilnsea wetlands and there were a few new migrants about with 2 Wheatear and 2 White Wagtail seen plus a Black Redstart, a Stonechat, 5 Chiffchaff and 2 Brambling. 

On the move were 3 Stock Dove, 47 Jackdaw, 14 Rook, 4 Skylark, 185 Meadow Pipit, 64 Chaffinch, 22 Linnet, 3 Goldfinch and 9 Siskin.

Other sightings oncluded the 3 Pink-footed Geese on Holderness field and 3 Pintail, 2 Tufted Duck, a Goldeneye, 8 Avocet and 9 Black-tailed Godwit in the Kilnsea wetlands area.

A mild day with sunny spells and a F4-5 westerly.  Watches: 0655-1000.

Not much change overall with the Spoonbill still on long bank marsh and the Whooper Swan still on Kilnsea wetlands with this area also having 3 Pintail, 382 Redshank, 11 Black-tailed Godwit and 8 Avocet..

The best of todays action was a Hawfinch at the Warren that flew off north and a Great Northern Diver heading north over the sea, but little else was on the move..

Sunny spells and a F4 westerly.  Watches: 0655-1000.

The Spoonbill remained on long bank marsh and two firsts for the year were a Swallow on canal scrape and Blackcap in Easington were the best of the day which also saw a Pale-bellied Brent among 268 Brents on Kilnsea wetlands where the Whooper Swan was still present. 

Elsewhere some movement overland with 11 Jackdaw, 5 Rook, 3 Carrion Crow, 3 Alba Wagtail, 18 Chaffinch, 9 Linnet and 2 Goldfinch with a Manx Shearwater blogging over the sea. Full counts on Trektellen.

A mild sunny day despite the cool F3 north westerly.

The Spoonbill remained on Long bank finding plenty to eat while a locally rare Green Woodpecker was feeding on the ground around canal scrape with some Mallard and a Little Egret for company.

Other sightings were a Jack Snipe on Clubleys, the male 'rubicola' Stonechat in the triangle, 15 Avovet on Beacon ponds, a Snow Bunting north over the Warren and a few Black Redstarts still about.

The best fo the days action saw a Glaucous Gull fly north and a Great Northern Diver head west up the Humber, A nice male 'rubicola' Stonechat was the best of any migrants which included 5 Black Redstart, 3 Stonechat, 6 Chiffchaff and a Brambling.

It was aquiet day with few observers about, but still a good total of 7 Black Redstart was returned with 3 still around Southfield farm. Other migrants seen were a Woodcock, 5 Chiffhchaff and 2 Stonechat with the Whooper Swan still on KIlnsea wetlands and the 3 Pink-footed Geese again in the triangle.
