Spurn Bird Observatory

Wadertastic guided walk

01 August 2017

Sunday 13th August 9am -1pm, “WaderTastic!”
Are you puzzled by Plovers and confused by Calidrids? If so, then this event led by Spurn Bird Observatory members Tim Jones and Jack Ashton-Booth will be perfect for you!.
Spend a little time to explore the diversity of wading birds the Humber Estuary, Kilnsea Wetlands and Beacon Ponds has to offer. Learn the basics of plumage identification, learn the characteristic calls and vocalisations, learn the skills to get closest to them and when and where to look for them ! With over 45 different wader species recorded at Spurn, including the 1st record of Stilt Sandpiper for Britain, there is no better place to get to grips with this unique family of birds. On the day there should be around 20 different species of wader for us to focus on, so you will take away a lot of new ornithological skills.
Meeting place: The new Observatory, Kilnsea village, 4 doors north of the Crown and Anchor pub.
Price: £20 with lunch and refreshments included.
Number of places: Limited to 12 places with 2 leaders.
NB. Subject to demand, further ‘WaderTastic’ events could be held on Saturday 12th August and Saturday and Sunday 26th and 27th August. Watch this space.
