Spurn Bird Observatory bring together RBA and Birdnet to provide birdnews going forward

The bird news scene has changed considerably since Dag Marshall took over Birdnet. But as happens to us all Dag has now decided to retire and hang up his boots. Whilst it would have been simple to just close the doors and turn out the lights, he wanted to make sure that he left his long-standing and loyal customers with a continued birdnews service.

The editorial team here at the Observatory are very excited. We’ve been working very hard recently, pulling together to finalise the 2016 Spurn Wildlife report. We are pleased with progress and the report is now in its final stages with our first-rate designer Chris Gaughan from Design Wing.

We are delighted to announce that our 2016 report will feature an exclusive cover artwork of the Easington Siberian Accentor by world-renowned top avian-realism artist Ian Lewington.

Siberian Accentor donations benefit local community

Paul Collins recently presented a cheque for £400 to Easington Parish Council. The money was collected by the observatory from kind donations given by birders visiting Easington to see the Siberian Accentor in October last year.

We are all disappointed and frustrated with the recent planning decision regarding the YWT Visitor Centre. In some quarters this frustration has turned into anger and quite a large number of people have asked SBOT to sever all links with the YWT.

LITTLE TERN WARDEN JOB VACANCY

A vacancy has arisen for the rewarding and potentially career developing position of Seasonal Little Tern Warden at Beacon Lagoons Nature Reserve, East Yorkshire. The Reserve is located is at the base of the Spurn Peninsula and has been the site of a Little Tern colony for many years.
